States have particular obligations to fulfil children’s rights, but civil society also must take part in making positive changes in the lives of children. Save the Children Sweden works with partners – governments and civil society, including non-governmental organisations – to address children’s rights. We strengthen the capacities of our partners to become leading actors for children’s rights in their countries, to monitor government’s actions effectively in respect to children’s rights, and to contribute to the improvement of children’s lives.
Children's organisations
The number of children’s organisations in Southeast Asia and the Pacific has increased in recent years. These organisations have a strong commitment to make sure that children in their societies are informed of their rights, and live free from fear, abuse and prejudice. They are also committed to ensuring that children’s views are respected and taken into account.
Children's organisations, face challenges in keeping their organisations running. Many have limited experience and skills in management, policy development, administration, proposal writing and fundraising.
Apart from strengthening partners’ skills on strategic planning and management, Save the Children Sweden facilitates their understanding of children’s rights and ways to design programmes that address children’s needs. We work with partners to adopt rights-based perspectives with a strong focus on principles of accountability, participation, non-discrimination and inclusion, transparency and the best interests of children.
National and regional child rights network
Save the Children Sweden supports national and regional networks to become strong advocates for children’s rights and share experiences and knowledge among the network members. Our work also focuses on assisting child rights networks to prepare alternative reports to the Committee on the Rights of the Child on the progress of the implementation of UN CRC.
