Using a rights-based approach, Save the Children Sweden works to provide children with their basic rights as defined in the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of Child 1989 (UNCRC). Our work focuses mainly on children who live in the most difficult circumstances: children subjected to violence and abuse; children separated from or receiving inadequate support from their families; children who do not receive the education to which they are entitled; children in armed conflicts and emergencies; and children living in poverty.
Our work contributes to protecting children from discrimination, exploitation, violence and other forms of abuse. Save the Children Sweden helps to ensure children will be brought up in a safe and healthy environment with access to quality education that provides self-esteem and relevant knowledge. We also make it a priority to see that children, as community members, have the opportunity to voice their needs and concerns and exert influence in their families, schools and societies.
To ensure children’s rights are implemented and sustainable, Save the Children Sweden works with partners to strengthen civil society so that it respects and supports the rights of children. We also work together to make sure governments are accountable and act upon their particular responsibilities to design and implement relevant services, policies and legislation.
