Map matters: A 17-year-old Fah and students from Kaperwithya School present a community map which they drew to illustrate risk and safe areas from tsunami. The village leader recognises the importance of the map and helps posted them at various places in the community.
“At first we were worried that adults would not help us when we visited the community to gather information. But it turned out that they were very cooperative. Many of them say that the map is very helpful.”
Fah expresses her feeling about her involvement in promoting preventative measures for future natural disasters.
“We are just a small group, but I believe that we can help protect our communities”, says Fah. “And for me, I am now better at solving problems, make many new friends, and learn how to work with other children and adults.”
