Save the Children Sweden works to establish safe and supportive environments that respect, protect and realise children’s rights as outlined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Using a Child Rights Programming approach, we work with and through partners to strengthen the ability of societies to monitor and promote children’s rights by holding to account governments and all others responsible for rights fulfilment.
To achieve sustainable improvement in children’s lives, we employ a combination of the following four methods.
Research and analysis
As a basis of our work, Save the Children Sweden conducts research and analyses current situations, policies and practices to identify gaps and challenges on issues that have an impact on children. We also support the development of new methods and tools that can help civil societies and governments to effectively transform the UNCRC’s principles into practice.
Direct support
Save the Children Sweden provides direct support to vulnerable and disadvantaged children so that they have access to means or services that will help to improve their conditions. Our programmes encourage children to participate and voice their concerns and ideas, bringing forward their views on possible solutions.
Knowledge and skills
Built on research, analysis and direct support, Save the Children Sweden supports the exchange of information and promotes skills development and enhancement for the realisation of children’s rights. Our aim is that our partners will monitor actions effectively in respect to children’s rights, contribute to improving the lives of children, and become leading actors for children’s rights in their countries.
Advocacy and awareness-raising
Drawing on knowledge and experience gained from our programme and research work, Save the Children Sweden and partners raise public understanding and awareness of children’s rights and related issues. We call on the public and governments to change their practices and to ensure the enactment and enforcement of policies that will result in a lasting improvement for all children.
