About us

Save the Children Sweden was established on 19 November 1919 as an independent non-governmental organisation with no religious or political affiliations. Since then, our work has focused on developing child-friendly societies by supporting governments and civil society in actions to bring lasting improvements for children.

We work for

  • A world which respects and values each child.
  • A world where all children participate and have influence
  • A world where all children have hope and opportunity.

Save the Children Sweden fights for children’s rights. Our work is guided by the fundamental values expressed in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989 (UNCRC) and the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights 1948.

Our work is founded on the conviction that

  • All children and adults are of equal value.
  • Children have special rights.
  • Everyone has a responsibility to respect and promote the rights of children, but States have particular obligations.

Save the Children Sweden’s work in Southeast Asia and the Pacific began in the early 1990s. A regional office was established in Bangkok in 2005 to provide strategic direction for programmes in Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Viet Nam.
